ACR Preliminary Schedule of Activities

This Preliminary Schedule of Activities represents the initial plans for the delegation as developed in cooperation with your delegation leader, your professional counterparts, and our research team. The Final Schedule of Activities, published approximately 30 days prior to your delegation convening, will be adjusted to reflect the composition of the delegation, unique opportunities, and scheduling with your professional counterparts.

 

Day 1 Sunday- October 1, 2023

Morning departure from the Miami International Airport, U.S. for Jose Marti International Airport, Havana, Cuba.   (Round trip flights Miami-Havana are included in the program cost.)

Upon arrival, the delegation will be met by your Delegation Manager and local guides. The delegation will then travel to the Fortress of San Carlos de la Cabaña, across the bay of Havana and enjoy a beautiful view of the city and lunch  at the historic La Divina Pastora restaurant. The Fortress of Carlos de la Cabaña, a UNESCO World Heritage site, was built between 1763 and 1774, to protect the weakest spot of the city’s defense system.  

Check in to the Grand Aston Hotel La Habana.  Located  in the heart of the Malecón, with a view of the Havana Bay. The Malecón  is a 7 km-long stone seawall, where the life of Havana can be experienced.  Nightly, Cubans gather along the wall to share in the cooling sea breeze with music and dancing.

Before Dinner the Delegation will gather for a program briefing and introduction, followed by a welcome dinner in Old Havana.

 

Day 2 Monday- October 2, 2023

We will start the morning with an introduction to Cuba’s National Health System. Presented by a panel of Cuban Health officials, discussions will cover the history of the healthcare system, post revolution (1959) to today.  The officials will share the ministry of health’s structure for resource allocation across rural and urban communities.  Learn about the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and recovery.  

Following lunch visit the University of Medical Sciences of Havana, meet with the faculty from the School of Radiology and discuss the curriculum, standards, and structure for  diagnostic, interventional and oncology radiation.

Later visit the National School of Public Health (ENSAP) to discuss the standards, evaluations, and structure of  Radiology Education.   Meet with professors and discuss the issues facing healthcare education and practice, both in Cuba and in the U.S.

Later, the delegation will be briefed on the role of the Cuban government and US relations by a representative of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, ICAP.

The Delegation will enjoy dinner at a traditional Cuban Paladar (family-run restaurant, often in the owner’s home). 

 

Day 3 Tuesday- October 3, 2023

Start the morning with a visit  to a public hospital and meet with the radiologists, staff, and hospital administrators.  Discuss the state of imaging-based care in Cuba and the challenges and best practices in providing radiology care.

After lunch,  visit the National Institute of Oncology and Radiobiology of Cuba (INOR), discuss the standards of practice for  surgical oncology radiotherapy, chemotherapy, onco-pediatrics, and neuro-oncology.

Tonight, after dinner, your Delegation manager will help with arrangements for those who wish to attend a variety of optional cultural activities.

 

Day 4 Wednesday- October 4, 2023

Begin the morning with a guided walking tour of Old Havana. Then, meet with the Cuban Radiological Society (founded in 1927 as the Cuban Radiological and Physiotherapeutic Society).

After lunch you will continue exploring the levels of health care as you visit a local policlinic.  The physicians and staff will discuss access to care,  provide an opportunity for you to meet some of their patients and discuss current precautions resulting from the pandemic. 

Dinner will be on your own.  Strike out on your own, or with a small group and experience the music, art, and life in Old Havana.

 

Day 5 Thursday- October 5, 2023

Start the day with a visit  to a community-based Family Doctor/Nurse clinics.  Learn how physicians provide radiological services to their community. 

The afternoon is reserved for individual research pursuits.

Before dinner, meet as a group to discuss observations and plans for future collaboration.  Say goodbye to Cuba and your delegation members at the farewell dinner.

 

Day 6  Friday- October 6, 2023

Transfer from Jose Marti International Airport, Havana, Cuba to Miami International Airport.
