Delegation Leaders are selected by the professional association to represent the members and the goals of the association. Delegation leaders provide the initial vision and guidance in the development of the professional program. Delegation Leaders assist in facilitating the professional dialog, greeting hosts and representing the delegation members while in the field.
Dr. Ronald V. Maier
Ronald V. Maier, MD, FACS, is the former Surgeon-in-Chief of Harborview Medical Center, a Level 1 Regional Trauma Resource in Seattle, WA, and Vice-Chair of Surgery at the University of Washington. He is the Jane and Donald D. Trunkey Professor of Trauma Surgery.
Dr. Maier believes in providing the best cutting-edge care for both elective operations and critically ill surgical patients. His goal is to participate in the development of trauma care delivery systems to provide exceptional care without exception.
Dr. Maier earned his M.D. from Duke University and completed General Surgery training at the University of Washington. He is an expert in trauma care, emergency surgery and critical care. He conducts research on clinical approaches and trauma system development to improve survival after severe injuries and life-threatening surgical illness.
Dr. Maier is Past Chair of the American Board of Surgery and Past-President of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the American Surgical Association and the American College of Surgeons.
