ENA Delegation Leader

Delegation Leaders are selected by the professional association to represent the members and the goals of the association.  Delegation leaders provide the initial vision and guidance in the development of the professional program. Delegation Leaders assist in facilitating the professional dialog, greeting hosts and representing the delegation members while in the field.

Ryan Oglesby, PhD, MHA, RN, CEN, CFRN, NEA-BC

Ryan Oglesby is the Secretary/Treasurer of the Emergency Nurses Association. He is in his fifth year on the board.

Oglesby is a principal and global lead for emergency department and patient throughput assessments for Philips Healthcare Transformation Services. In this position, he is responsible for the oversight of all ED and patient throughput assessments globally and works closely with facility executives to evaluate operational performance and leadership opportunities in care delivery and patient flow. In nearly 13 years at Philips, Oglesby has served in multiple capacities including consultant, senior consultant, director and vice president. Prior to joining Philips, he held numerous roles in emergency and pre-hospital nursing including nurse manager, emergency department and transport services educator, critical care staff development instructor and flight nurse.

Oglesby began his career in emergency care as an EMT while attending nursing school. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1998. He completed the requirements to become an EMT-paramedic and has experience as a flight nurse and ICU nurse, but has worked primarily as an emergency nurse throughout his career. Oglesby earned a master’s degrees in nursing and health administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His research interests include emergency department patient perception of care, recruitment and retention, and executive succession’s relationship to competitive advantage in healthcare.

Oglesby has been actively involved in ENA at the local, state and national levels since 2004. He served as president of the Piedmont Chapter in 2008 and the North Carolina ENA State Council president in 2012. Oglesby also represented membership on the Governance Assessment Work Team in 2014 and served Region 6 on the Nominations and Elections Committee from 2014-18. Additionally, he was a General Assembly delegate for six years – 2008-11 and 2013-14. Oglesby has presented both poster and podium presentations at local, state and national ENA events since 2004.

Oglesby brings hands-on management expertise and a quarter-century of clinical and administrative experience in pre-hospital, emergency, trauma and critical care. His transformational role in leading quality improvement and positive patient outcomes, as well as an ability to connect with people, has promoted creativity, innovation and change throughout the organizations with which he has worked.
